Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong (Vanguard) daily Duong Xuan Nam, on January 22, presented more than 200 book titles, over 200 newspapers and magazine titles to Vietnamese women and young workers in Taiwan.
Taiwanese Central Emigrant Assistance Centre, Administrative Institute, China Airlines and Huaxin Airlines will help the newspaper to deliver the gifts to recipients in Taiwan on the occasion of "Vietnamese cultural day to welcome the traditional Lunar New Year festival".
Mr Nam said that this was the first time the daily presented books and newspapers to Vietnamese in Taiwan, but it will become an annual event creating a link between Vietnamese overseas in Taiwan and their homeland.
According to statistics by the Taiwan Emigrant Department, by December 2006, about 200,000 Vietnamese people have been living and working in Taiwan, including 94,000 women and nearly 70,000 children of mixed blood.
Taiwan set up a fund in support of healthcare, knowledge improvement and community integration for Vietnamese women and their children.
