The People’s Committee of Central Highlands Dac Nong province has invested VND700 million (US$44,000) in improving the Mnong ethnic minority’s script and compiling a Mnong-Vietnamese dictionary.
The project, implemented by the provincial Department of Education and Training, will carry out survey and research to build up a standard Mnong language system, which will be used widely by both the media and the community.
A Mnong-Vietnamese dictionary will be compiled to facilitate Mnong teaching and learning for both Mnong and Vietnamese people, thus helping to improve knowledge and education quality, as well as preserve and develop the cultural values of ethnic minorities in the Central Highlands.
The project, scheduled for completion in late 2007, draws the participation of linguists and cultural researchers.
