So far nearly 500 beauties from 17 different ethnic groups have registered for the contest, according to the organising board.

Prior to the final round, three qualifying rounds will be held, in Hanoi at the end of September, in Da Lat in mid-October and in Ho Chi Minh City in mid-November.

At the final, contestants will participate in a number of performances, including wearing ao dai, swimsuits, evening dresses and traditional costumes, as well as being tested on behaviour, talent and aptitude.

The contest is aimed at not only honouring the beauty of Vietnamese women but also promoting the traditional culture of Vietnamese ethnic groups.
