More than 100 outstanding elderly people of Hanoi and neighbouring Bac Ninh province attended a cultural festival in the capital city on February 18.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung praised the elderly for their past experiences and contributions to the struggle for national liberation, construction and defence, as well as to role model movements to build a new lifestyle in the residential areas, and study and follow the late President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example.

Welcoming the lunar New Year, Mr Hung expressed his hope that senior Vietnamese citizens will uphold their traditions to become the mainstay of their children and make a greater contribution to the nation.

Currently, Hanoi has more than 300,000 senior citizens, including 230 aged more than 100. They used to be workers, farmers, generals, soldiers, cultural activists, scientists, artists, craftsmen and heroes.
