Work to restore a corridor in the Forbidden City in the inner of the Ancient Citadel in Hue is being sped up so that it can be opened for visitors during the Hue Festival 2006, slated for June 3-11.

The corridor linking Duyet Thi Duong theatre with Dien Tho Palace is expected to be the venue for the Night in the Royal Palace festival.

This is part of a VND82.7 billion (equivalent to US$520,000) project to repair and strengthen various corridors and the foundation of the Imperial Palace, which started in January 2006 and will last until 2008.

The first King of the Nguyen Dynasty, Gia Long, began the construction of the Ancient Citadel in 1805. The citadel, including the Forbidden City, covers an area of 5.2 sq km, on the north bank of the Huong (Perfume) River.
