Grondahl will wield the baton as the orchestra performs 10 pieces ranging from baroque to contemporary, including Festive Overture by Shostakovich, Sleeping Beauty by Tchaikovsky, Carneval in Paris by Sevendsen, and Russian Tango by Grondahl himself.
Doan Hoa and Le Minh Hien will play violin solo and duets of compositions including Vivaldi’s The Winter from the Four Seasons, Sarasate’s Navara, and William’s Theme from Schindler’s List.
Grondahl studied the trombone, conducting, and composition at Oslo University and the Rimsky-Korsakov Concervatory in St Petersburg, Russia, before going on for postgraduate studies in London and New York.
Hoa, a graduate from the Vietnam National Academy of Music, has performed as a soloist with symphony orchestras and conductors from Japan, Australia and Norway. Hien studied at the Hanoi Conservatory of Music, the Moscow Conservatory of Music, and the HCM City Conservatory of Music, and is a guest lecturer at the HCM City conservatory.
The Colour of Music will mark the 55th anniversary of the conservatory and 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Norway and Vietnam.
The concert begins at 8pm at the HCM City Conservatory of Music, 112 Nguyen Du Street, District 1. Tickets costing VND200,000 – 350,000 are available at the venue.
