Addressing the opening ceremony on October 15, Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem stressed that the two-day conference is aimed at shedding light on the role and significance of cultural diplomacy in Vietnam’s overall foreign policy.
It is also expected to offer ways to integrate cultural diplomacy into political and economic diplomacy to create a strong and unified policy for Vietnam’s modern diplomacy, he said.
Mr Khiem went on to say that the spread of Vietnam’s unique cultural values helps send to the world a message of a peaceful, stable and friendly Vietnam, which has shown its rapid and sustainable development and increasing diplomatic role both in the region and around the globe.
Vibeke Jensen, UNESCO’s Chief Representative in Vietnam, said that cultural diplomacy is one of the mainstream factors in the foreign relations arena in the 21st century because it can address the era’s biggest challenges, including inequality, poverty and conflict, in a sustainable manner.
