It was also in agreement with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF)’s proposal to employ a domestic coach for Goetz’s current position.
The committee said the head coach failed to fulfill his task as U23 Vietnam were thrashed 1-4 by Myanmar in the match for the third position in the 26th SEA Games in Indonesia in November.
The final decision will be officially announced on January 4 when Goetz comes back to Vietnam from his vacation.
Committee Chairman Nguyen Sy Hien said Phan Thanh Hung, Mai Duc Chung and Nguyen Duc Thang were listed for the ‘hot seat’ but they all declined, saying they were busy preparing for the coming football season in their clubs.
Trainer Goetz confirmed that VFF can end his contract if it compensates him US$66,000 (equal to three months salary). However, he argued that there is no article in the contract saying that he has to lead the U23 team to the final match of the SEA Games.
Moreover, he was officially hired to work exclusively for the national squad, not for the U23 team. In this post, the German trainer has obtained some remarkable achievements, helping the Vietnamese football team improve their rankings and enter FIFA’s top 100 in December.
