Chess players enter Chess World Cup second round

(VOV) -Two Vietnamese Grand Masters, Le Quang Liem and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, on August 13 advanced to the second round of the 2013 Chess World Cup.

In the return leg when Liem’s opponent Oliver Barbosa from the Philippines held the white pieces, Liem still beat him after only 32 moves, exploiting his opponent’s early mistakes.

It was the second time Liem had defeated Barbosa, having prevailed at the 2013 Asian Indoor Games in Incheon, the Republic of Korea (RoK) last July.

Liem is scheduled to face Spain’s Francisco Vallejo Pons in the next round.

Meanwhile, teammate Son defended well to hold his much stronger Russian rival, Vladimir Akopian, to a draw.

Son will play the winner of the match between Russian Dmitry Andreikin and Iranian Darini Pouria.
