Work on the casting of the largest special bronze drum in celebration of the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi began in the central province of Thanh Hoa on April 23.

The drum, the biggest and most special among 100 ones to be cast for Hanoi birthday, will be decorated with 1,000 dragons of the Ly dynasty.

It has a diameter of one metre and a height of 79cm.

Ninety-nine remaining drums, which are 60cm in diameter and 48cm in height and decorated with dragon patterns, are being also cast in Thanh Hoa, which is believed to be the home of bronze drum casters in Vietnam.

The entire 100 bronze drums are expected to be completed by mid August.
They will be on display at Hanoi’s Literature Temple in Hanoi and will be played only once at the grand ceremony for its millennium anniversary in October.

Then, the largest drum will be kept the Literature Temple and the 99 others will be presented to 63 cities and provinces and outstanding organisations nationwide.
