The cannon was found by local residents in the Phuc An Ward of Yen Binh district, when they were fishing. It is 121 centimeters long, weighs 400 kilograms and has a diameter of 25 centimeters. 

Right after it was retrieved from the lake it has been sent to the Yen Bai Provincial Museum. 

After examining the antique weapon, Tran Xuan Ca, the museum’s Director claimed that it was cast during the Nguyen Dynasty in the 13th year of the Minh Menh reign (1820-1841). 

This is the fourth cannon from the Nguyen Dynasty to have been unearthed in Yen Bai province.
