The film Mua len trau (Buffalo boy) by overseas Vietnamese director Nguyen Vo Nghiem Minh has won the Best Foreign Language Film of the Year award at the Palm Springs Film Festival in the US.

The title is considered an important step for the film towards Oscar nomination this year.

The International Palm Springs Film Festival took place from January 5-16 in California, the US, attracting 232 films from 71 countries, including 84 premieres and 49 of the 54 foreign entries for this year’s Academy Awards.

The jury members this year were president Kirill Razlogov (Russia), Henrik Uth Jensen (Denmark), Gideon Kouts (France), Charles-Stephane Roy (Canada) and Robert Koehler (US).

Established in 1990 by Mayor Sonny Bono, the Palm Springs Film Festival is one of the greatest film festivals in northern America.
