The internationally-acclaimed film Mua Len Trau (Buffalo Boy), a film about a Vietnamese boy keeping buffaloes out of floods, began screening in Brussels on May 10, as part of activities to boost cultural cooperation between Vietnam and Belgium.

The same day, the film, directed by Nguyen Vo Nghiem Minh, a Vietnamese American, was also shown in the port of Avers, one of Belgium's important cultural and economic centres.

Based on the book Huong Rung Ca Mau (Forest Fragrance in Ca Mau) by renowned Vietnamese author Son Nam, the film portrays the lives of farmers living in the southernmost province of Ca Mau during the 1930-1940 period with picturesque scenes of rivers, forests, boats and buffaloes.

"Mua Len Trau" was produced by the Ho Chi Minh City-based Film Company Giai Phong in collaboration with France's 3B Productions and Belgium's NOVAK.

Last year, the film won the Special Young Jury Prize at the Lucerne Film Festival in Switzerland in 2004, the Golden Unicorn Grand Prix at the Amiens International Film Festival in France, and first prize from the Francophone Organization at the Namur  Francophone Film Festival in Belgium.
