Hundreds of high school students are whetting their cosmological appetite at the World Space Week 2008 an exhibition organized by the HCM City Amateur Astronomy Club (HAAC).

They are displaying their self-made telescopes, spacecraft models and water-propelled rockets at the HCM City Science and technology Institute, which is hosting the week-long event.

Sponsored by the Vietnam Institute of Physics’ HCM City chapter, the annual event is part of the United Nations’ World Space Week held from October 4-10 all over the world.

This year’s programme, entitled “Exploring the Universe”, aims to commemorate the days in 1957 when human beings began the quest to conquer space and to polularise knowledge about astronomy and ignite a passion for science among the young generation.

Visitors have the opportunity to get more information about the universe through video clips and lectures by scientists.

Apart from HCM City, similar programmes are being held in Hanoi, Da Nang, Pleiku, Khanh Hoa, Phan Thiet and other localities.
