One hundred bronze drums are being cast for the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long -Hanoi.

The drums, 60cm in diameter and 48cm in height, are being cast in the traditional way, in Dong Son district, replicating the decorations of the four ancient drums of Ngoc Lu, Hoang Ha, Quang Xuong and Song Da, and some patterns of Thang Long and Hanoi.

So far, 26 drums have been completed and the remainders are expected to be finished before September 12, 2010.

The 100 drums will be on display at Van Mieu (Temple of Literature) in Hanoi and will be used once only at the grand ceremony for the millennium anniversary in October.

Then they will be presented to 63 cities and provinces and outstanding enterprises nationwide.

One of the drums will be auctioned to help poor children and children who are victims of Agent Orange.
