DJ Yoda, Britain’s finest turntablist, will give a showcase performance of beat juggling and scratching at a highly anticipated performance in Hanoi on tomorrow night.

Born in London, Yoda, whose real name is Duncan Beiny, started performing at Mojo, a popular Warwick hip hop and soul night-club, when studying at the University of Warwick in the late 1990s.

After graduation, he began releasing underground demo mix-tapes to small music shops. Through the popularity of these tapes, Antidote Records commissioned Yoda to record his debut How to Cut and Paste Mix Tape Vol. 1 in 2001.

In 2006 his first album, The Amazing Adventures of DJ Yoda, featuring hip-hop luminaries Biz Markie, Sway, Ugly Duckling and MC Paul Barman was released to critical acclaim; swiftly followed by singles Wheels in 2006, and Playin’ Around in 2007.

Along with his recording career, Yoda has received high praise for his live performances, winning the DMC DJ of the year Awards in the Scratch DJ category in 2001 and was among six nominees for best UK hip-hop DJ in the UK Hip-Hop Awards in the same year. In 2009, he was a Sony Radio Academy Award nominee.

His seminal How to Cut and Paste series showcased a tongue-in-cheek mixing style that prompted Q magazine to declare him as “one of the ten DJs to see before you die”

In addition to being a regular guest on BBC Radio One, Yoda has sat on the judging panel for the DMC DJ World Finals for the last three years.

His performance in Hanoi is part of the Heineken Green Planet music event, which will start at 7.30pm at the American Club, 19 Hai Ba Trung Street, Hanoi.
