A book collection that includes 16 epic narratives from four ethnic minority groups in Tay Nguyen (the Central Highlands) was released in Ho Chi Minh City on March 15.

Published by the Social Science Publisher and Cultural Research Institute (CRI) in Hanoi, the collection includes 16 separate books, each depicting one epic. The 1,000-page collection in two languages: Vietnamese and the ethnic dialect of each epic includes twelve Mo Nong, two Ba Na, one Ra Glai and one Cham Ho Roi epic, which features research, illustrations and portraits of ethnic artisans.

According to CRI director, Prof. Nguyen Xuan Kinh, the publication of these books aims to preserve and popularise the narratives of ethnic minority groups before the oral storytelling tradition disappears along with an aging generation of storytellers.

The publication is part of a US$1.1 million State-funded project on surveying, collecting, presenting, translating and publishing Tay Nguyen epics.

The collection of these special books will be presented to the public during the fourth Ho Chi Minh City Book Fair, which will kick off in the city next week.
