Australia Month 2008 was launched in Hanoi on January 22 to mark the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1973-2008).

According to Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Bill Tweddell, the event will focus on educational and cultural exchange activities.

During the month, a photographic exhibition entitled “AustraliaVietnam: Then and Now” will last from February 26 to March 7 at the Hanoi Library.

Furthermore, Vietnamese audiences will also have a chance to witness the world renowned soprano Annalisa Kerrigan in a concert at the Hanoi Opera House.

Another highlight of the month will be a competition to design a logo to celebrate the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and Vietnam.

Currently, Australia is one of Vietnam’s closet partners in education and training with more than 9,000 Vietnamese students studying in Australia and other 7,000 to 8,000 participating in Australian training programmes in Vietnam.
