An impressive Ly ngua o (a Southern Vietnamese folk song) concert closed the 2nd Asian Zither Festival in Ho Chi Minh City on September 4.
During the four-day festival, zither lovers enjoyed 40 interesting performances by 29 zitherists from China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Taiwan and host country Vietnam.
Several exhibitions and talks were also included in the event, drawing the participation of music professors such as Japan’s Ishise Akiko and Vietnam’s musicologist Tran Van Khe.
The zither is a traditional Asian stringed instrument. It is known as dan tranh (16-chord zither) in Vietnam, koto in Japan, kayagum and komungo in RoK and guzheng in Singapore.
