Fishermen in the central coastal city of Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh province, have retrieved a cannon, believed to be used in a sea battle in the early 19th century.

The 500kg cannon, made of cast iron, has a diameter of 0.2m at its barrel mouth.

With a length of 2.4m, it is the longest cannon displayed at the Binh Dinh provincial museum.

Though there are no epigraphs on the gun, it is believed that the gun was used during a sea battle on Thi Nai lagoon on February 27, 1801, between the Nguyen troops and the Tay Son army.

This is the third cannon found so far on Thi Nai lagoon, Binh Dinh province.
