For the first time, the Asian-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) awarded an official prize to Radio Voice of Vietnam (VOV).

ABU Prizes are presented annually to improve the quality of radio-television programmes and strengthen cultural and educational understanding between member countries in the union and in the region.

VOV sent two entries, including ‘Culture Guardians’ by Tran Nhat Minh, Tran Hong Hanh, and Hoang Phuong Trang from VOV2 channel.

‘Culture Guardians’ is a 30-minute infotainment programme, which fascinated audience with a moving story about people who devoted all their lives to the silent preservation of the beauty and values of the folk culture.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Tokyo in mid-October this year.

In 2009, another infotainment entry from VOV4 made its way to the final round of the ABU prizes.
