He chose to play Polonaise in A-flat major, op.53 by Chopin and La Campanella by Franz Liszt , which are both known as being technically difficult for pianists.
However, Quang successfully showed not only his virtuosity but also his “own identity”. He said Chopin’s musical composition was about Polish people, but it also filled him with emotion and reminded him of Vietnam’s patriotic wars.
Luu Hong Quang has recently emerged as a rising star of the Vietnamese pianist circles.
He was born into a family with a musical tradition and was taught to play music by his father, a leading accordion and jazz lecturer in Vietnam. At the age of six, Quang began learning to play music. Later he was guided by renowned artist Tran Thu Ha.
At the age of 16, Quang won a special prize at the International Chopin Piano Competition in Asia. In 2006, he got third prize at the annual Val Tidone contest in Italy and was granted a full scholarship to attend a piano course at the Australian International Conservatorium of Music (AICM) and to complete his secondary education.
He is now a second-year student at AICM.
