The fifth cultural festival of northeastern ethnic minorities opened in northern Ha Giang province on August 20 with the participation of more than 1,000 artists from 10 northeastern provinces and a Chinese art troupe.

The festival aims to honour the cultural values of ethnic minorities and foster mutual understanding and solidarity among ethnic minority people.

The event also celebrates the success of the 10th National Party Congress, the 61st anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day (September 2), and the 115th anniversary of Ha Giang province (August 20).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, secretary of the Ha Giang Provincial People’s Committee Hoang Minh Nhat expressed his delight at the participation of art troupes from 10 northeastern provinces and the Chinese art troupe. Mr Nhat said the festival is a chance for people in 10 northeastern provinces to exchange, study and honour cultural values.

Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Dinh Quang Ngu said the festival held in Ha Giang province will help people across the country fully understand the cultural values of the northeastern region, contributing to building a Vietnamese culture that is diversified, modern and rich in national identities.

The festival will run until August 22.
