Under the theme “Da Lat flowers – I love you”, the 2007 Da Lat Flower Festival opened on December 15 with a grand ceremony to honour 12 artisans from six flower-growing villages: Van Thanh and An Son – famous for growing roses, Ha Dong and Thai Phien for chrysanthemums, Xuan Tho and Da Thien for gladioli.

Speaking at the ceremony, State Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan said that the festival is a great chance to promote the growing of Da Lat and other Vietnamese flowers for export, as a contribution to local tourism and socio-economic development. Da Lat flowers are available not only in many parts of the country but also in other countries around the world.

The image of the flower growers was honoured at the festival, which attracted thousands of visitors and 21 foreign delegates.

Under the framework of the festival, on December 16, the International Flower Fair was held at the Da Lat City Garden. It displayed more than 5,000 kinds of flowers from 90 domestic and foreign enterprises, including the Netherlands, the Republic of Korea, China, Thailand, Japan, Belgium and Denmark.

The fair will run until December 21.
