With a silver medal snatched at the Beijing Olympic Games 2008, weightlifter Hoang Anh Tuan topped the list of 10 prominent athletes of 2008. He was followed by footballers Hong Son and Cong Vinh, who prevailed in the AFF Cup championships.

The national lists of outstanding athletes and coaches and similar lists for those with disabilities were announced by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and some other organizations in Hanoi on December 30.

The Vietnam Football Federation said on the same day that the ministry agreed on awards for the national football team, which performed successfully at the Southeast Asian tournament.

Accordingly, the team will receive VND200 million and certificates of merit from the ministry. The team’s coach, Henrique Calisto, will be presented with an insignia “for the cause of sports”.

4- Nguyen Hoang Ngan (karatedo)

5- Nguyen Tien Minh (badminton)

7- Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (chess)

8- Doan Kien Quoc (table-tennis)

9- Tran Minh Thang (chess)

10-  Vu Nhu Thanh (men’s football)

1- Mai Duc Chung (men’s football)

2- Pham Danh Ton (weightlifting)

3- Ho Thi Tu Lam (athletics)

4- Pham Quoc Trong (karatedo)

5- Nguyen Duc Long (table-tennis)

1- Dao Van Cuong (athletics)

2- Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan (weightlifting)

3- Nguyen Thi Hai (athletics)

4- Vo Huynh Anh Khoa (swimming)

5-   Dinh Thi Nga (weightlifting)
