Heifer Project International (HPI/VN), an American non-profit organisation whose goal is to help end world hunger, has donated 40 cows to 40 Khmer households in Hieu Thien and Vu Bon hamlets in Phuoc Nam commune, Ninh Phuoc district, south-central Ninh Thuan province.
Each household received a 12-month old cow weighing 150kg and VND500,000 to build breeding farms and plant grass for fodder. HPI/VN will also provide each household with loan worth VND1-1.5 million to develop agricultural production.
Since the beginning of 2007, the organisation has carried out four major projects in Vietnam in 14 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta, east-southern, central-coastal and Central Highland regions, with total financial assistance of VND11 billion.
