An earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale jolted the Kermadec Islands region of New Zealand on July 6.

The US Geological Survey put the magnitude at 7.8 on the Richter scale.

The US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a non- expanding regional tsunami warning for a part of the Pacific near the earthquake.

The epicenter was initially determined to be at 29.5 degrees south latitude and 175.6 degrees west longitude.
