At least 20 people were killed and a dozen others injured in a checkpost attack on June 9 morning in Pakistan's northwest tribal area of South Waziristan, reported local Urdu TV channel Dunya.

The report quoted government sources as saying an estimated 25 militants, mostly likely from Afghanistan, stormed a checkpost early June 9 morning in the Makeen area of South Waziristan, which borders Afghanistan, killing eight security personnel and injuring 12 others.

In retaliation, the security forces killed 12 militants in the attack, said the report, adding that the fight between the militants and security forces is still going on.

A couple of days ago, some 300 militants from Afghanistan launched an attack in different areas in the Dir district of Pakistan, which is located in the northern part of the country bordering Afghanistan. During the two-day fight in the area, over 70 people including some 45 militants were reportedly killed.
