A documentary about the My Lai massacre, where more than 500 unarmed Vietnamese citizens were killed by American troops in 1968, was shown on TV by the Public Broadcasting Services (PBS) on April 26.

The film, part of a documentary series by PBS’s American Experience, is based on detailed testimonies by Lieutenant William Calley, Captain Ernest Medina and other soldiers from the Charlie Company.

Tran Nam and two other survivors also gave their accounts of how their parents, relatives, and neighbours were killed.

The 90-minute film features witnesses who were former US soldiers, as well as journalists, lawyers, and reporters and includes video clips showing US demonstrations against the war.

It ends with an apology from William Calley who was prosecuted for his crime.

“I have always been tormented by what I did in My Lai,” he said.
