The event attracted more than 100 participants to discuss new approaches to the co-management of natural resources in Vietnam, as well as appropriate policies and legal framework on the issue.

Aside from protecting the environment, co-management projects help improve the livelihoods for poor communities living near mangrove forests or nature reserves, said GTZ chief technical adviser in Soc Trang Klaus Schmitt.

Co-management projects have been carried out in Vietnam with the aim of effective exploiting aquatic resources, preserved forests and mangrove forests. However, there has been no consistent approach or comprehensive legal framework for such projects.

During the workshop, participants will have field trips to many targeted areas in Vinh Chau district.
