Hanoi fire and rescue troopers responded to the scene of the accident at around 5:30 am. Officials said the force of the impact caused one of the vehicles involved, a tanker truck, to roll over and end up on its side.
The other semi-trailer crashed through the centre median barrier dividing the traffic moving in opposite directions and ended up going the wrong way into the lanes of oncoming traffic.
Officials said some fuel from one of the trucks may have spilled onto the street.
It took emergency crews more than two hours after the crash, to upright the tanker and get traffic moving normally on the thoroughfare.
Authorities said they are continuing to investigate the accident.
