Vietnam attaches importance to developing comprehensive co-operation with France and the European Union, as it brings benefits for both sides, said National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An while receiving French Honorary Senator Jacques Oudin in Hanoi on May 30.

Mr Oudin, who is also co-president of the High-level Council for the Development of French-Vietnamese Economic Co-operation, said his Vietnam visit aims to discuss the council's operation in accordance with the agreement reached by French President Jacques Chirac and Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh in Paris in June 2005.

He said France always supports and assists Vietnamese development. He also expressed his wish for more active support from relevant Vietnamese agencies, including the National Assembly, for his council's operation.

Chairman An praised Mr Oudin's contributions to the development of the bilateral relationship. He affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly is ready to assist the operation of the high-level council and expressed his belief that with the efforts of the two sides, the council will maintain its efficiency.
