The two Government negotiation delegations on Vietnam-China border and territories headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Vu Dung and his Chinese counterpart Wu Dawei met in Beijing from July 21-23.

The two sides exchanged views on a wide range of sea issues in a comprehensive and frank manner and agreed to strictly implement the agreements reached by their leaders with a view to dealing with sea issues satisfactorily and maintaining stability on the East Sea. They pledged to refrain from the use of force or threat to use force as well as from letting sea issues affect bilateral relations.

The two sides agreed to consider petitions and proposals in an effort to seek basic and long-term solutions to resolving sea issues while enhancing cooperation in less sensitive areas such as sea environmental protection, tsunami forecast, sea current research and search and rescue activities on the sea.

They agreed to step up their negotiations on border delineation and cooperation for mutual development of territorial waters in Bac Bo (Tongkin Gulf) in order to reach an early deal.

They also agreed to accelerate the land border delineation and border marker planting to ensure that all these activities will be completed in 2008, resulting in the signing of a new document on border control regulations.

The next meeting between the two delegation chiefs will be conducted in Vietnam.
