Vietnam and Thailand should further strengthen high-level exchanges between their legislative bodies with a view to promoting mutual understanding and bilateral cooperation at multilateral forums, said National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong.

Mr Trong made the statement at a reception given to a delegation of the Thai House of Representatives’ Secretariat headed by General Secretary Pitoon Pumhiran in Hanoi on March 10.

Promoting exchanges and cooperation between the Vietnamese NA Office and the Thai House of Representatives’ Secretariat is an important channel, greatly contributing to boosting relations between the two countries’ legislative bodies.

In the upcoming 12th session, the Vietnamese NA will continue improving the efficiency of its operations so it is essential for it to learn lessons from other countries’ parliaments including the House of Representatives of Thailand, Mr Trong stressed.

For his part, Mr Pumhiran said his delegation’s visit to Vietnam aims to further tighten relations of friendship and cooperation between the two legislative bodies and the two countries as well.
