The Lao Federation of Trade Unions (LFTU) held a meeting on April 10 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Laos and Vietnam.

Addressing the meeting, Vice President of the LFTU, Simun Phumlasi said that this is part of activities to celebrate the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2012.

Mr Phumlasi thanked the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) for its effective support to the LFTU over the years and pledged to stand side by side with Vietnam’s working class to strengthen the traditional relationship.

Vice President of VGCL Hoang Ngoc Thanh expressed delight at visiting Laos at a time when both parties and states are carrying out various activities in response to the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year.

Mr Thanh affirmed that Vietnam’s trade unions always attach importance to developing the traditional ties, friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with LFTU and will join efforts to boost cooperation in training, research, experience sharing and other exchanges.

During the meeting, the VGCL conferred the “For the cause of building trade unions” insignia on some Lao trade union members and artists.
