Vietnam's national football team rose 38 places to 134th position in the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) ranking this month, the federation announced on January 17.

The big improvement was attributed to the national team's good performance at the King Cup held in Thailand last December, in which Vietnam took second place.

Meanwhile, Thailand regained its top position in the Southeast Asian region as it moved up 13 places to stand at 124th in the FIFA ranking, followed by Singapore, which took 126th place. After this jump, Vietnam is now placed third in the region.
