A number of US garment and apparel retailers and importers have submitted a letter to the US House of Representatives Appropriations Committee, strongly opposing its recent legislation extending the Department of Commerce’s (DOC’s) programme of monitoring textile and apparel imports from Vietnam.
These retailers and importers included the US Association of Garment and Leather Shoes, the National Retail Federation, the Retail Industry Leaders Association and the Association of Importers of Textile and Apparel.
The committee’s legislation is wrong and harmful to the US economy, the letter says, because the US authorities have not yet found any evidence of dumping and there is not any company in the US complaining about losses caused by textile products imported from Vietnam.
