The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to provide loans worth US$115 million for a poverty reduction programme and infrastructure development projects in Vietnam.

The agreements were signed by ADB Country Director Ayumi Konishi and Governor of the State Bank of Viet Nam Nguyen Van Giau in Ha Noi on December 20.

Of the sum, US$90 million will be given to the Integrated Rural Development Sector Project which will build rural roads, flood control systems, irrigation works and water systems for 13 central provinces.

A loan of US$15 million will go to the Government’s Poverty Reduction Programme which is expected to boost social insurance reform as well as strengthen financial, land and natural resources management.

Another US$10 million loan will be allocated to the development of the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway to help ease congestion in and around the country’s southern economic hub.
