The aim of the meeting is to share experiences, strengthen understanding and devise solutions for enhancing labour cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in the coming years, said Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

The meeting, co-organised by MoLISA and the Lao Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, opened in the central city of Da Nang on August 14.

Participants will discuss job generation, exit and entry, labour management and the 1995 agreement on labour cooperation.

Currently, Vietnam and Laos are implementing many projects, which attract a huge numbers of labourers from both countries. These projects focus mainly on hydroelectricity, transport, agriculture and mineral exploration. In future, the project to build Luong Prabang hydro-electric power plant will attract thousands of labourers.

According to MOLISA’s Overseas Labour Management, around 20,000 Vietnamese labourers work in Laos under cooperative projects each year.
