A delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) has paid its official visit to the United Kingdom and the German Democratic Republic at the invitation of the Friedrich Elbert Stiftung (FES) and the UK Department of Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.

During its time in Germany, the delegation, led by Hoang Binh Quan, head of the CPVCC’s Commission for External Relations, worked with the Deputy General Secretary of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), the FES president Anke Fuchs, some SPD central agencies, and scholars. They also went on a tour of some localities in Germany.

In the UK, the delegation met with Nigel Evans, deputy chairman of the House of Common; Jeremy Browne, Secretary of State for the Foreign and Common Wealth Affairs; and Alan Duncan, the Secretary of State for International Development, and visited research centres and universities in London.

At the meetings, the Vietnamese delegation informed the German and UK hosts about Vietnam’s socioeconomic achievements, the preparations for the CPV 11th National Congress, and Vietnam’s diplomatic policies.

For their part, German and UK officials highly praised Vietnam’s renewal process, as well as Vietnam’s achievements in hunger elimination and poverty alleviation. They expressed their hope to promote the cooperation with Vietnam, especially in investment, trade, education and training, and development assistance.

Both parties also discussed measure to strengthen diplomatic ties in the future.
