As a key media agency of the Party and State, Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) should produce high-quality products through improving its reporters’ journalism skills, while studying and successfully applying modern broadcasting technology to its programmes, said National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An.

Visiting VOV on the Lunar New Year’s Eve, Mr An praised its staff for their efforts to obtain the outstanding achievements in the past years, particularly in covering events of the NA sessions.

On behalf of VOV Management Board, VOV director general Vu Van Hien said VOV staff are happy to receive the head of the legislative body on the New Year’s Eve and thanked him and the National Assembly in general for special care for VOV in recent times.

Mr Hien briefed Mr An about the glorious development of VOV in the past 60 years. He said VOV has constantly improved the quality and efficiency of its broadcasts to cater to various tastes of listeners near and far.

“VOV is a sharp tool and an effective mean of communication of the Party, State and the National Assembly in providing the up-to-date and reliable information about various aspects of life,” said Mr Hien. “Currently, VOV coverage reaches up to 97 percent of the country’s territory.”

He noted that in 2005, VOV and VTV successfully organised the 42nd General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, which has been highly valued by regional and international friends. Last year, VOV also began its broadcasts in Cham ethnic language.

In 2006, Mr Hien said VOV will strive to extend its coverage to 100 percent of the national territory. It will also air programmes in Dao and Mnong ethnic languages to meet the demand for information and entertainment of the two ethnic groups.

On the occasion of the Lunar New Year, Mr An extended best wishes to all VOV mangers, reporters and technicians.
