National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong together with heads of the parliaments and governments of ASEAN member countries attended the 28th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 19.

Participants discussed and approved the agenda and documents to be represented at the plenary meeting of the AIPA, as well as subjects to be discussed between parliaments of ASEAN member countries and those of the observer countries.

The same day, a meeting of more than 50 female MPs was also held to adopt three important resolutions on removing violence towards women and children, helping women reduce poverty and develop the economy and increasing women’s role in policy-making activities.

Female MPs expressed their concerns about the escalation of violence against women and children in many countries, saying that governments should cooperate with national assemblies to resolve the issues and promote law enforcement.
