Vietnam earns first wins at Badminton Junior World Championships

(VOV) - Vietnam's national badminton team defeated the Ukrainian team 5-0 on October 26 in the 2012 Yonex Badminton World Federation (BWF) Junior World Championships currently underway in Chiba, Japan. 

In the men’s singles event, Cao Cuong was losing 15-21 to Ukrainian Andriy Zinukhov in the first set of their match but he managed to reverse the situation to end up winning the two final sets 21-15 and 21-10.

Thuy Linh also trounced Darya Samarchants from Ukraine with a score of 2-0 in the women’s singles event.

Tuan Duc and Hong Nam gained a 2-0 victory over Vladyslav Gurkalo and Maxym Kosovan in the men’s doubles category, while Nhu Thao and Thu Huyen triumphed over Anastasiya Dmytryshyn and Darya Samarchants 2-0 in their women's doubles match.

Mixed doubles pair Tuan Duc and Thu Huyen beat Andriy Zinukhov and Viktoriya Gushcha 2-0, allowing the Vietnamese team to sweep their session against Ukraine.

Vietnam previously lost to Malaysia 1-4 in their opening matches.

The national team will face the Netherlands on October 27.
