The India-Vietnam Friendship Society and the Vietnamese Embassy in India jointly held a meeting in New Delhi on September 1 to mark the 61st anniversary of Vietnam's August Revolution and National Day (September 2).

Minister counsellor of the Vietnamese Embassy in India Ton Sinh Thanh recalled the glorious revolutionary cause of the Vietnamese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh.


The general secretary of the India-Vietnam Friendship Society, said that Vietnam's economic, educational and cultural achievements greatly encouraged the Indian people and assure them of the success of socialism in the world.


*** A photo exhibition entitled "Vietnam, A Country, A Model, A Hope" has opened in Caracas, Venezuela, by the Vietnamese Embassy and the Venezuelan National Assembly on the occasion of Vietnam's August Revolution and National Day (Sept. 2).


Speaking at the opening ceremony, Venezuelan member of parliament Dario Vivas and President of the Venezuela-Vietnam Parliamentarians' Friendship Group, said that Vietnam is advancing vigorously toward the goal of a rich people, a strong country, and an equal, democratic and civilized society. He affirmed the Venezuelan people's solidarity and friendship with Vietnam.


Vietnamese Charge d'affaires in Venezuela Nguyen Van Tich spoke about the achievements of the Vietnamese people, particularly in their current renovation process. He stressed that the results of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's recent official visit to Vietnam will open up new prospects for further development of the two countries' friendship and multifaceted cooperation.


*** Many Japanese newspapers reported on Vietnam's recent achievements and highlighted the two countries' relations.


The Japan Times and the daily Yomiuri, the two main English language daily newspapers in Japan, in their Sept. 2 issue carried an article written by Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Chu Tuan Cap, introducing Vietnam's major achievements in its national construction and development, as well as the sound development of the two countries' ties in the past 33 years.


The two papers also carried articles written by Chutomu Takebe, Secretary General of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and President of the Japan-Vietnam Parliamentarians' Friendship League, and Motoyuki Oka, Chairman of the Japan-Vietnam Economic Committee under the Japan's Business Federation (Nippon Keidanren), congratulating Vietnam's National Day.


In his article, Mr Takebe spoke highly of the active democracy in the 10th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, as well as the determination of Vietnamese leaders to fight corruption. He also repeated Japan's support for Vietnam's bid to join the World Trade Organisation (WTO).


Meanwhile, Mr Oka stressed that Japan and Vietnam have built strong ties and affirmed that he will further push for more economic cooperation between the two countries.
