More than 1,000 students in Ho Chi Minh City on March 21 participated in a bicycle parade, launched by the city’s Youth Union to promote “Earth Hour 2010”.

The marchers passed through housing blocks, hotels, supermarkets, and parks to deliver fliers and encourage people to respond to Earth Hour 2010 by turning off their lighting systems from 20.30 to 21.30 on March 27.

Entitled “Earth Hour 2010 – Small action for big change”, the communication campaign includes a variety of activities like a photo exhibition, and a “one hour without electricity” contest.

The city’s youth hope people will form a habit of using energy efficiently to minimize the impact of climate change.

Nguyen Xuan Lam, a student at the Ho Chi Minh City Teacher Training University, said he is very eager to take part in the programme because it can help change people’s awareness of the earth.

Earth Hour should be held regularly and expanded to other cities, he said.
