Five Vietnamese victims of human trafficking rescued in Laos

VOV.VN - Five Vietnamese residents who fell victim to human trafficking in Laos have been rescued and assisted to return to their home country.

The victims, including three men and two women, were initially told to work in Thailand, but in fact they were deceived and forced into hard labour in Laos.

There they were tasked with setting up virtual accounts to appropriate property. Every day they were asked to work 13 to 18 hours, and if they did not meet the quota, they would be abused and not paid.

The victims were required to pay a ransom of between VND150 - 200 million if they wished to return to their homeland.

The Drug and Crime Prevention and Control Authority under the Border Guard Command and the Green Dragon Children's Organization (Hanoi) - a non-governmental organization helping rescue human trafficking victims - in collaboration with the Ha Tinh provincial Border Guard successfully rescued the five victims.

The victims were all transported to Cau Treo International Border Gate in Ha Tinh province, central Vietnam, on May 2.

The Drug and Crime Prevention and Control Authority and the Ha Tinh provincial Border Guard Command provided the victims with initial essential assistance. The victims were then handed over to the Green Dragon Children's Organization, to help them reunite with their families and reintegrate well into the community.
