US human rights report contains non-objective comments about Vietnam

VOV.VN - Vietnam's consistent policy is to promote and protect human rights, which considers people as a centre and driving force of the Doi Moi (renewal) and national development process.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang made the statement at a regular press briefing held on April 25 in Hanoi in reply to a reporter's question regarding Vietnam’s response to the US' 2023 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices released on April 22.

“The US Department of State's annual human rights report dated April 22, 2024, despite reflecting Vietnam's achievements and progress in protecting human rights, unfortunately continues to give some non-objective comments based on inaccurate information about the actual situation in Vietnam," the spokesperson said.

“Once again, we affirm Vietnam's consistent policy of promoting and protecting human rights, which considers people as the center and driving force of the renewal process and national development. Fundamental human rights to freedom are recognized in the Vietnamese Constitution and are protected and promoted by specific legal documents and carried out in practice," Hang added.

According to Hang, Vietnam has been and will be discussing this topic both frankly and openly in a constructive spirit with the US on issues of difference in a bid to enhance understanding and make more positive contributions to the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
