Exhibition highlights resounding Dien Bien Phu Victory
VOV.VN - An exhibition kicked off at the National Library of Vietnam in Hanoi on May 6 as part of activities to mark the 70th anniversary of the country’s historical victory at Dien Bien Phu against colonial French forces.
The exhibition showcases a total of 800 documents and items which are divided into four sections, including resistance against French colonialism and Vietnamese military arts; the Dien Bien Phu campaign; the Dien Bien Phu Victory, symbol of wisdom and patriotism; and Echoes of Dien Bien.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thu Thuy emphasised that the victory can be viewed as one of the most glorious in the history of the Vietnamese people's struggle against foreign invaders.
The exhibition is scheduled to run until May 26.
On March 13, 1954, the Vietnamese revolutionary army launched its first attack on the French colonialists’ heavily fortified base at Dien Bien Phu, starting a 56-day historic campaign whose victory directly led to the signing of the Geneva Accords on ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina.
The victory also created a foundation and conditions for the Vietnamese people to go on and secure victory in the resistance war against the United States, liberate the south, and ultimately reunify the country in 1975.
