The request comes through Nguyen Trung Khanh, head of the VNAT, who has asked all travel operators to pay close attention to monitor all incoming visitors during their first 14 days in Vietnam, whilst also taking steps to isolate all individuals who display symptoms of pneumonia.

Guides must remain vigilant when it comes to monitoring the health of travellers already on tours, and must be swift to inform local health authorities about any cases of people who display any symptoms of the disease, which includes coming down with a fever, coughing, or difficulty in breathing.

The move comes following many hotels in Danang City, in addition to the provinces of Khanh Hoa and Lao Cai, announcing that they have stopped receiving guests from China in a bid to protect the safety of their staff and other guests.

A recent report reveals the scale of the epidemic, with the virus affecting 5,974 people in China whilst the death toll has climbed to 132 as of January 29
