The consulate counter will help residents in Danang and the Central Region apply for, among other things, visas to travel to Italy without the need to go through the Italian Consulate General in HCM City or the Italian Embassy in Hanoi.
Italy is the first Schengen country to open a consulate counter in Danang. In recent years, the number of Vietnamese traveling to Italy for study, work or holiday has increased significantly and the new counter is expected to alleviate the wait time for visas.
Vietnamese and Italian government officials have also discussed a proposal to open a direct air route between the two countries in depth during a recent visit by the Italian Minister of Infrastructures and Transport.
A final decision on the new route is expected to be announced soon.
